Ah the one thing that most photoshop newbies turn to for shading is the dreaded burn/dodge tool. It looks like you used at least the burn tool for shading. I'd recommend against it. For shading, try using either a darker shade of the color, but preferably a close shade that matches the original color to shade with.(Think complimentary colors!) Also, you need to establish a light source. This will make your shading more realistic and make more sense.
